About The Wing Repair Company

The Wing Repair Company wasn't born in a boardroom; it was born in the heart of a heartbreaking choice.

As a queer Black male who has navigated the complexities of adoption, homelessness, addiction and the reality of sex trafficking while on my lifelong journey of healing, I found myself at a crossroad in my recovery. To save my life and secure my sobriety, I had to make an impossible decision: continue to struggle or rehome Big Red and Banana. My two cats who were my anchors, my source of unconditional love, the initial catalyst for my desire for sobriety and my reason for waking up—yet the system demanded I leave them behind to get help and move forward.

I chose life, and rehomed them, but the cost of that sacrifice stays with me. Now working in the mental health and recovery field I see this so often and I realize that the current treatment landscape is missing a vital piece of the puzzle: the understanding that true healing shouldn't require you to break your heart.

Reframing that pain into a purpose, I began to envision The Wing Repair Company. We will be a 90-day residential treatment facility built on the belief that the human-animal bond isn't just a comfort—it is a lifeline.

We provide a sanctuary for those struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions. Our mission is to bridge the gap between access to care and the preservation of the support systems that keep us whole. At The Wing Repair Company, we believe in Healing without Sacrifice.

We are the only facility of our kind that will integrate a comprehensive, on-site animal-assisted therapy program where your pets don't just "visit"—they undergo their own intake and stay with you. With on-site veterinary care and certified trainers, we will ensure that both you and your companion heal together.

We won't be just clinicians; we will be peers. We will have a heavy lived experience dynamic amongst staff because who better to support you than individuals who are just like you! We will be led by experts who have walked the path of homelessness, justice involvement, and recovery, our program will be designed with the raw, honest understanding of what it takes to reassemble a life.

Recovery fails in isolation. We're going to foster a "home" environment rather than an institutional one. Through 24/7 peer support, trauma-informed therapy, and a 90-day phased approach, we will help you build a life worth living—one that lasts long after you leave our doors.

Rooted in advocacy, we will work tirelessly to reduce the gap in services for the unhoused and vulnerable populations and their pets. Through our founders deep involvement in state-wide pilot programs and research initiatives we are going to ensure that our program scientifically sound as it is compassionate.
